How to Prepare Your RV for the Summer Season

Jul. 7 2023 Seasonal By Broadmoor RV

Summer is the most popular season for RV camping. The warm weather makes it a great time to enjoy nature. However, before you can take your first RV trip of the summer, there are certain steps you need to take so that you can be prepared. Use this guide from the experts at Broadmoor RV in order to get your RV ready for the summer.

Inspection After Storage

Even while in storage, your RV can suffer damage due to leaks and pests. That is why you should always inspect your RV’s interior and exterior after taking it out of storage. Be sure that the tires, brakes, battery, and other basic systems are working properly before you proceed to the next steps.

Prepare the Water System

If you used low-pressure air to winterize your RV’s water system, your next step will be to close the drain and fill it up with water. Follow that up by pressurizing the system and allowing the water heater to fill up.

If you used antifreeze instead of low-pressure air to winterize your RV’s water system, you will need to flush out the system with water. Keep clearing the system until any residual smell is gone, then double-check that the water heater has been reconnected before proceeding to the next step. Always make sure that your system is completely flushed as you should never under any circumstances consume antifreeze in any concentration.

Power System

Bear in mind that attempting to run the water heater without water in the system can seriously damage the heating element. That is why it is very important that you finish work on the water system before moving on to the power system. Once you are sure that everything is ready, check your RV’s refrigerator, interior lights, and any other electrical elements. Now is also a good time to replace the batteries in your smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector.

Propane Tanks

Most RV models use propane gas to power the stove and heater. Start by connecting the line and turning on one tank in order to check that the stove burners are still functional. Now that the water and electrical systems have been checked, you can take a look at the water heater. Finally, refill your propane tanks if they are a bit low.
